If the craft ice is melting in your freezer, this can be caused by the door not being closed properly, the freezer temp being too high, or a dirty or damaged door gasket.

What to Check First

  1. Ensure the Freezer Door is Closing Properly 1 Place a flashlight inside the freezer drawer and leave it on, close the door and look for light bleed. 2 If there is light bleed, this can indicate the unit is not sealing properly. No Light Bleed Light Bleed.
  2. Inspect the Door Gaskets for Buildup or Damage 1 If buildup such as food is hardened on the rubber gasket, the door may not close properly due to poor adhesion. 2 Wipe the rubber gasket with a warm soapy towel or sponge to remove substances. Note If the door gasket is cracked or damaged, it will need to be replace. Please reach out to our 24/7 Chat Support to schedule a repair.
  3. Ensure the Unit is Level 1 An unleveled unit can cause the doors to not seal properly. 2 Ensure the unit is installed on a flat service, and adjust the leveling feet at the bottom of the unit accordingly. Note For assistance with leveling, please see our LG Refrigerator – How to Level a Fridge article for further assistance.
  4. Lower the Freezer Temp -4°F (-20°C) is the minimum recommended temperature setting of the freezer compartment for normal ice production. If the freezer temperature is set at a warmer temperature, this can lead to lower ice production and/or melting depending on how frequently the compartment is opened.
  5. If the craft ice is melting in your freezer, this can be caused by the door not being closed properly, the freezer temp being too high, or a dirty or damaged door gasket.
  6. If the craft ice is melting in the freezer compartment, check the door gasket for gaps.
  7. If you see gaps in the door gasket, the freezer door is not properly closed.
  8. Cold air can leak through the gap in the gasket, causing the Craft Ice to melt.
  9. Open the freezer compartment door. Check the items that may have gotten wedged at the back of the middle drawer preventing the top drawer from sliding completely closed.
  10. Rearrange or relocate these items elsewhere in the freezer compartment. To prevent this issue, don’t overfill the drawers.

Why This Can Happen

Symptoms can have more than one cause, and the correct steps depend on the exact model, installation and operating conditions. Use the checks above to narrow the issue before service.
